Global Humanoid Shipments Could Reach 60,000 Units This Year
Chinese robotics manufacturers accounted for more than 97% of global humanoid robot shipments during the first half of 2026, according to data from Smart Analytics Global, underscoring China’s substantial early lead in one of artificial intelligence’s fastest-growing physical technology markets. Worldwide shipments reached approximately 19,100 units during the six-month period, more than tripling from roughly 5,100 a year earlier. The research firm expects global shipments to reach around 60,000 units this year and potentially half a million annually by 2030.
Shanghai-based Agibot emerged as the world’s largest humanoid robot manufacturer by shipments, overtaking Unitree Robotics after delivering approximately 8,400 units and capturing 44% of the global market. Unitree shipped another 5,900 units. Those volumes, as noted in an article at finance.yahoo.com, significantly exceed current shipments from leading American developers such as Tesla, Figure AI, and Agility Robotics, highlighting the manufacturing scale Chinese companies have already established while many Western competitors continue refining products and preparing for broader commercial deployment.
China’s advantage has been supported by extensive government funding, industrial policy, manufacturing expertise and a rapidly expanding domestic robotics ecosystem. At the same time, geopolitical tensions are increasingly shaping the market. The United States recently prohibited imports of new Chinese humanoid and quadruped robots and certain components, citing cybersecurity and national security concerns, potentially accelerating the development of increasingly separate Chinese and Western robotics supply chains.
Perhaps the most significant development, however, is where the robots are going. Industrial and commercial applications reportedly represented more than 70% of humanoid shipments during the first half of the year, compared with roughly half a year earlier. Although the number of humanoids performing genuinely productive commercial work remains relatively small, the shift suggests the industry is beginning to move beyond demonstrations and research labs toward factories, warehouses, logistics operations and other practical environments where humanoid robotics could ultimately become a major new form of automation.
