Privacy, Chrome Browser Transparency Become Priorities

People who do a search and then talk about purchasing an item or a service are often startled when they turn on their internet device and the first thing pops onto their feed is an advertisement for the exact product or service they were considering. It’s a spooky, but explainable phenomenon.

A story by Kyle Wiggers at venturebeat.com, sheds some light on the intrusiveness of Google Ads and the search engine’s invasion of privacy.

Google is already using machine learning in Google Ads, albeit mostly to generate ad suggestions, better match users’ searches and adjust video bids. The AI algorithms that think a million times faster than humans are responsible for the ads. But sometimes these ads become annoying with their repetition and constant appearance on searches and Facebook timelines.

Google led discussions last week with advertising and publishing partners in Europe at a series of events in London, which comes after the company revealed it would introduce protections in Chrome to protect users from cross-site cookies and fingerprinting. Google also recently announced it would launch an open source ads transparency browser extension.

In August, Google launched Privacy Sandbox, an initiative to develop a set of open standards to enhance privacy on the web in a fashion that’s “consistent with users’ expectations of privacy.”
