Texas to Host Initial Buildout, With Additional Sites Planned Across the United States

The Stargate Project is set to invest $500 billion over four years to develop advanced AI infrastructure for OpenAI in the United States, with an immediate deployment of $100 billion. This ambitious initiative aims to solidify American leadership in AI, foster re-industrialization, and safeguard national security while creating hundreds of thousands of jobs and delivering global economic benefits. The project emphasizes collaboration between key partners to establish strategic capabilities for AI development.

As noted in openai.com, the initial equity funders of Stargate include SoftBank, OpenAI, Oracle, and MGX, with SoftBank leading financial responsibilities and OpenAI managing operations. Masayoshi Son, chairman of SoftBank, will chair the initiative. Prominent technology partners like Arm, Microsoft, NVIDIA, Oracle, and OpenAI are spearheading the infrastructure buildout, beginning in Texas, with additional campuses being considered nationwide as agreements are finalized.

Collaboration among Oracle, NVIDIA, and OpenAI will drive the operation of the computing systems, building on longstanding partnerships such as OpenAI’s collaboration with NVIDIA since 2016 and its newer alliance with Oracle. The project also strengthens OpenAI’s existing relationship with Microsoft, which provides Azure compute resources for training cutting-edge AI models and enhancing products and services globally.
