Enterprise Platform Integrates with Gmail, Google Drive and Slack

Uber is rolling out OpenAI’s ChatGPT Work to more than 30,000 employees worldwide, marking the company’s first organization-wide deployment of an AI agent platform designed for knowledge work. The expansion, as noted at openai.com, follows an initial pilot involving 1,000 employees and will make the technology available across Uber’s global workforce through ChatGPT Enterprise. Unlike traditional chatbots primarily used to answer questions or generate text, ChatGPT Work is designed to complete complex, multistep assignments and deliver finished work products. The deployment represents a significant step in Uber’s efforts to incorporate artificial intelligence into everyday business operations.

The platform connects with workplace applications including Google Drive, Gmail, Google Calendar and Slack, allowing employees to perform tasks that involve information spread across multiple systems. Workers can use the technology to research subjects, prepare meeting briefs, create presentations, analyze data and coordinate workflows without manually switching between applications for every step. Uber says the rollout will support departments including operations, finance, marketing and product development. The company is also providing an internal AI skills library, approved integrations and dedicated training to help employees adopt the technology.

ChatGPT Work will provide Uber employees with access to OpenAI’s portfolio of frontier AI models, including GPT-6.1 Sol, which the companies say will serve as the platform’s default model. Employees will also have access to multimodal capabilities such as voice and image generation, enabling different types of work beyond conventional text-based interactions. Uber’s software engineering teams will continue using OpenAI’s Codex tools for programming and development tasks. The expanded partnership builds on the companies’ existing collaboration and reflects Uber’s strategy of applying AI across both technical and nontechnical functions.

The announcement highlights the growing shift from experimental workplace AI tools toward enterprise-wide systems capable of carrying out substantial portions of business workflows. Uber and OpenAI say they intend to share additional information about employee adoption, practical applications and measurable outcomes as the deployment progresses. For now, the companies have not released comprehensive figures demonstrating how the initial pilot affected productivity, costs or employee workloads. The rollout nevertheless illustrates how major organizations are beginning to treat AI agents as a common workplace resource, raising broader questions about employee training, data governance, oversight and the evolving relationship between human workers and automated systems.
