Google AI Chief Talks Future of ML, Dispels Fears of AI Apocalypse

TechCrunch writer Frederic Lardinois recently sat down with Google’s head of artificial intelligence John Giannandrea to pick one of the best minds in the business about the challenges of making machines smarter and some of the future promises and obstacles in the fields of machine learning and AI.

Notably, Giannandrea dismisses fears of an “AI apocalypse” and attributes fears of general, superintelligent AI to unfounded hype and public misunderstanding; instead, he promotes the view that while preparing for general AI is important, that companies and researchers should focus instead on the challenges and benefits of AI systems in the near-term.
