Indian Government to Work with Private Sector on AI Weapons

India recently joined the ranks of governments investing in AI warfare equipment, ranging from autonomous tanks and vessels to drones and robotic weapons. According to a stories in India Today and The Financial Express, China’s investment in AI weaponry spurred interest in the country in better equipping its army, navy and air force.

Along with China, the United States, Russia and South Korea are heavily investing in AI-controlled weapons. China’s goal is to become the AI leader of the world by 2030.

Ajay Kumar, secretary of defense in India, said a task force headed by Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran is developing the specifics of a joint effort between the government and the private sector.

The government’s top priority is to use of AI-based surveillance of its borders with China and Pakistan.
