DeepMind Positions Flow as the Core of Its Next-Gen AI Storytelling Ecosystem

Google DeepMind announced Veo 3.1, the latest version of its AI video generation model, alongside major upgrades to its Flow filmmaking platform, offering creators deeper control, richer soundscapes and more realistic visuals. Since Flow’s debut five months ago, users have produced more than 275 million videos, prompting the company to enhance creative flexibility and introduce audio integration across all features. The update, as noted in blog.google, marks a significant leap forward in blending generative AI with professional-level cinematic tools.

With Veo 3.1, users gain the ability to refine narratives using rich, generated audio and advanced editing features. The “Ingredients to Video” tool now lets filmmakers use multiple reference images to design scenes with precise character, object, and stylistic control. The “Frames to Video” feature can generate seamless motion between starting and ending images, while “Extend” creates continuous long-form shots lasting up to a minute or more. These functions bring Flow closer to professional-grade video production, merging artistic freedom with AI efficiency.

The new editing suite introduces the “Insert” and “Remove” capabilities, letting creators add or delete objects while preserving natural lighting, shadows, and textures. This allows users to reimagine scenes without restarting their projects, bridging the gap between creative experimentation and final output. Together with improved audio and visual fidelity, Veo 3.1 promises “true-to-life textures” and stronger adherence to user prompts—a step toward cinematic realism generated entirely by AI.

Veo 3.1 is also being made available across Gemini API 2, Vertex AI, and the Gemini app, expanding access to both developers and enterprise clients. By deepening integration with the wider Gemini ecosystem, Google DeepMind continues its strategy of embedding generative video tools into scalable AI infrastructure—positioning Flow as a cornerstone for the next era of digital storytelling.
