Trained With Doctor Input, Apple’s AI Could Revolutionize Personal Wellness

Apple is developing a new AI-powered health agent under the codename “Project Mulberry,” aimed at providing users with personalized health advice. Building on a previous initiative called “Project Quartz,” this AI coach will leverage user data collected from Apple devices to offer tailored guidance on exercise, nutrition, sleep, and overall wellness. The feature may debut as early as the iOS 19.4 update, anticipated in spring or summer 2025.

The health-focused AI will draw on information from in-house medical staff and external specialists to enhance its accuracy and relevance. Apple, as noted in pymnts.com, is also incorporating expert-created video explainers on topics like sleep, cardiology, and mental health to complement the AI’s recommendations. Notably, the updated Health app will place new emphasis on food tracking, potentially positioning Apple as a competitor to apps like MyFitnessPal and Noom.

This effort is part of Apple’s broader ambitions in healthcare, although previous attempts have encountered obstacles—such as a recent patent dispute that forced the removal of a blood oxygen feature from its smartwatches. Still, Project Mulberry signals a more aggressive push by Apple to establish itself as a leader in personalized health technology through AI innovation.

Meanwhile, across the healthcare industry, companies are rapidly embracing generative AI (GenAI), with a PYMNTS Intelligence report showing that 90% of surveyed executives at billion-dollar healthcare firms expect positive returns from their GenAI investments. As a result, many are planning to increase their AI spending, reflecting a growing confidence in the transformative potential of AI for enhancing operational efficiency and patient care.
