Ripple Grants Windfall Funds to DonorsChoose.org

According to a company press release, Ripple has donated $29 million of Ripple cryptocurrency XRP to the educational charity DonorsChoose.org as part of the nonprofit’s #BestSchoolDay campaign to raise money for education.

DonorsChoose is a charity website that “empowers public school teachers from across the country to request much-needed materials and experiences for their students”. Similar to crowdfunding platforms, DonorsChoose allows for public school instructors to post funding projects directly to the public, giving donors the ability to give resources directly to classrooms in need in a vetted and safe process.

According to Ripple, the recent donation allowed for the service to fund all of DonorsChoose.org’s outstanding campaigns:

“Our donation fulfilled every request listed on the nonprofit’s website yesterday. Today, nearly 30,000 public school teachers in every state and approximately one million students are receiving books, school supplies, technology, field trips, and other resources vital for learning through DonorsChoose.org.”

Described by Ripple as the world’s “fastest and most scalable digital asset,” XRP caters to banking and fintech applications and “offers banks and payment providers a reliable, on-demand option to source liquidity for cross-border payments.” Currently, XRP is trading at approximately $.47 /XRP.
