Claude Maintains Context Across Channels and Ongoing Team Projects

Anthropic has introduced Claude Tag, a new collaboration feature that transforms Claude from an individual assistant into a persistent AI teammate embedded directly within Slack workspaces. Rather than opening separate chats for each task, users can simply tag @Claude in a channel, allowing the AI to participate alongside team members, complete assignments asynchronously, and maintain context across ongoing discussions.

Unlike traditional chatbot interactions, Claude Tag is designed to operate collaboratively within organizations. The system develops contextual understanding by observing conversations in approved Slack channels and connecting to authorized tools, documents, and code repositories. Team members, as noted in an article at anthropic.com, can delegate work ranging from software development and customer support to product analytics and bug investigation, while Claude plans, executes, and reports progress directly within shared Slack threads.

A defining capability of Claude Tag is its persistence and proactivity. The AI can remember relevant information within designated workspaces, continue projects over hours or days, proactively surface important updates, and even follow up on unresolved discussions when ambient behavior is enabled. Anthropic says the internal version of Claude Tag already generates approximately 65% of the product team’s code, illustrating how deeply the company has integrated AI into its own day-to-day operations.

To support enterprise adoption, administrators retain granular control over permissions, memory boundaries, token budgets and audit logs. Separate Claude instances can be configured for departments such as engineering, sales, or customer support without sharing sensitive information between them. The launch signals Anthropic’s broader vision that AI will increasingly function not simply as a conversational assistant, but as a collaborative digital coworker embedded directly into the workflows where teams already spend most of their time.
